UPDATE: Friday, 5 June

AN ELDERLY Healesville resident remains in critical condition after a car crash on Koo Wee Rup Road last night, and is not expected to survive.

Police and emergency services attended the scene of a two car accident on corner of Koo Wee Rup Road and Toolebewong Road in Healesville at 4.30pm on Thursday, 4 June.

A four-wheel-drive, driven by a Yarra Junction male, 27, had been travelling towards Yarra Junction on Koo Wee Rup Road.

He approached the intersection at Toolebewong Rd when there was a sedan waiting stationary to turn right into Toolebewong Road.

At about 4.30pm the cars collided at the intersection, with a Healesville man, 76, taken to the Alfred Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Healesville Police Leading Senior Constable, Cliff Argus, said the exact circumstances of the collision were unclear, so police are relying on witness statements.

“Witnesses said the 4WD was travelling last in a line of traffic and the driver of the sedan had let five of the six vehicles in line go through before turning into the intersection,” he said.

“Witnesses saw that the driver of the 4WD had his headlights on so there was no real reason for the elderly male not to have seen the vehicle.”

The driver of the 4WD sustained minor injuries but the driver of the sedan remains in a critical condition.

LSC Argus said the man is not expected to survive.
