Artwork for water

THREE Yarra Glen Primary School students have their artwork featured in Melbourne Water’s 2007 Calendar.
Last year Samantha Davis, Sophie Jarvis and Courtney Pratt had their artwork plucked from obscurity to be displayed in the calendar which is delivered to several communities across Victoria.
Students submitted their artwork with the theme Life – Just Add Water which aims to raise awareness of the value of precious drinking water, as well as rivers, creeks and bays.
Each month also contains a key message, to educate the community about important water issues.
Grade six student Courtney Pratt was awarded the front cover the calendar with her depiction of a dry Australian outback.
Her picture of a lone tree against the backdrop of a setting sun was accompanied by the caption “With the power of water, things will grow”.
Samantha Davis, also grade six, drew a water bottle containing all kinds of life forms inside it bearing the warning “Take away water and you take away our world”.
Grade one student Sophie Jarvis created a colourful paradise and said “People, animals and plants need water because we can’t live without it”.
Melbourne Water managing director Rob Skinner said the standard and quality of the artwork received from the students was outstanding and the task of choosing illustrations for publication was a difficult and challenging one.
“As in the past, we have received some fantastic artwork from local students this year and we were delighted with the hard work that the students had put into their contributions,” Mr Skinner said.
“The students’ work includes some very thought-provoking messages about how important it is to protect our rivers and creeks, both for our enjoyment as well as for the huge variety of animals like fish, platypus and frogs that live in them.”
