Juniors welcome

FERNY CREEK Tennis Club is calling all future stars of the game to pick up a racquet and ball for its annual open day on Sunday.
The day offers both young and old the opportunity to experience tennis.
Club president Jodie Wallis said it’s traditionally held following the Australian Open tournament when interest in the game is at its peak.
Wallis said the aim was to get people to take that interest one step further and join a tennis club.
“We want to promote tennis as a regular sporting activity for young and old,” he said.
“It’s a great way for people of all ages to maintain and improve health while having fun.”
On Sunday new members interested in joining the club can share in some great discounted deals.
Anyone who joins on the day will receive 16 months of membership at the same rate as 12 months. One lucky person will also win a free membership with the club.
“This is one of the most exciting parts of the day and we especially hope it’s a junior player who wins this prize,” Wallis said.
The day will also include free coaching sessions, a sample cardio work-out, a serving speed competition using a radar gun, a sausage sizzle and heaps of prizes and giveaways.
It will be held on Sunday at the Ferny Creek Recreation Reserve, on the corner of Hilton and Clarkmont roads from 11am.
