Wanted man on crash course with police

By JESSE GRAHAM

POLICE have arrested a wanted Healesville man after a chase through Coldstream this morning, which left the man’s car crashed and impounded.
Yarra Ranges Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Matt Lutwhyche was conducting laser speed tests on Killara Road in Coldstream at around 11am today.
A 21 year old Healesville man was clocked speeding, travelling at 127km/h in an 80km/h zone, and swerved around on-foot police when they indicated for him to pull over.
Highway Patrol Leading Senior Constable Scott Lardner said that the driver underestimated his speed, however, and skidded up an embankment into a tree when trying to turn onto Lauriston Drive.
LSC Lardner said the driver ran away from the crashed car, as LSC Lutwhyche gave chase, and was caught when trying to jump over a fence.
The Healesville man, who had warrants out for his arrest, was charged with evading police, speeding, other traffic offences and for having fraudulent number plates on his car.
LSC Lardner told the Mail that the driver’s car will be impounded under hoon legislation, with the driver caught travelling at 47km/h over the speed limit.
He will appear at the Ringwood Magistrates’ Court at a later date.
