Yarra Ranges athletes take on the state

By Jamie Strudley

Yarra Ranges Athletics (YRA) juniors were greeted by sunshine and calm conditions on Saturday morning – a welcomed change from the wet and wind of recent weeks.

The conditions appeared to help athletes strive for improvement with over 100 new personal bests recorded on the day.

The annual Victorian 5km Championships also took place in Box Hill on 14 November.

Four YRA athletes competed against the best in the state.

Men’s B race: James Laven 4th (14.59); Men’s C race: Seamus Dwyer 7th (15.54), James Anderson 24th (17.15); Women’s B race: Grace Muller 14th (19.23).

Saturday afternoon was Round 5 of the Athletics Victoria Shield League at Nunawading.

YRA senior athletes continued the summer season earning vital points towards the club ladder score.
