Winter solstice a major drawcard

The WHYLD Circus performance kept the patrons entertained at the much-loved event.

WHYLD Community Group hosted its third annual winter warming on Sunday 18 June, bringing local residents out for an afternoon of heart-warming activities to celebrate the winter solstice.
Hillcrest CFA managed car parking and kept the central bonfire well stoked providing radiant heat as the sun slipped down.
Gold coin donations collected will support this essential local service.
Upper Yarra SES came to the party, lending their large marquee that was suitably decorated as the main circus tent and also provided essential lighting over the car park area assisting with safe movement of people through the area.
Hoddles Creek Red Cross fired up the barbecue and served a range of hot, hearty food and drinks to warm the body while 1st Yarra Junction Cub Scouts served popcorn and homemade lemonade.
Chris James from The Dreaming Space had both kids and adults highly entertained with his magic show and the mystery of the missing wedding ring which was finally found with great relief!
When darkness finally descended, the crowd were mesmerised by a WHYLD Circus performance – a spectacular show incorporating light, fire and warmth of those long lost, but not forgotten, soft toys – the culmination of many monthly workshops attended by local volunteers and Fireworks Dance Company.
