Chum Creek Primary School students were excited to be on the stage, performing the Finding Nemo play at Healesville High School Performing Arts Centre.

On Wednesday 7 May, Students finally unveiled the production, which they’d prepared with the help of teachers and parents for the past few months.

School captain Elodie said one of the preps suggested producing a play, Finding Nemo.

“Most of the Disney movies are a love story, but we wanted to do something that is not a love story,” she said.

“It was also easy for everyone to get involved, as everyone had watched the movie.”

Students started preparing for the production at the end of last year by watching the film together to analyse the characters for scriptwriting.

The play was based on the original film, but the students changed the storyline a little bit to get all the students involved.

School captain Solti said they began practising the play in February.

“We practised every Thursday and Friday,” he said.

“We learnt teamwork while preparing this play because we realised ‘You can’t do anything on your own. You have to have everyone to make it happen’.”

Students grabbed an opportunity to experience different aspects of theatre, from script writing to set design and costumes.

Through this experience, Grade 5 student Bodhi said he learnt how to be an actor, and Grade 6 student Phoebe said she learnt how to manage nervousness on stage.
