Healesville actresses Tuilyn and Rhiannon – both young mothers of primary school age children – understand the joys and challenges of parenthood.
The responsibility of raising happy, healthy, well-adjusted kids in a hectic, technology-filled world can feel demanding.
We all want to be a good parent, friend, neighbour and citizen of the planet.
Rhiannon and Tuilyn have plenty to draw upon when portraying their characters in God of Carnage, a comedy described as a 90-minute thrill ride into the most dangerous place on earth – parenthood.
Chum Creek resident Justin Stephens, founder and artistic director for Yarra Valleys Redfox3 theatre, will present his newest production to audiences in Warburton, Healesville and Upwey this month.
Last year, Redfox3 stunned packed audiences with their critically acclaimed production of the thrilling ghost story The Woman In Black.
This year they are proud to present the hilarious Tony and Olivier award winning smash comedy, God of Carnage.
Justin has assembled a stellar cast including Badger Creek resident Tuilyn Shannon and Rhiannon Leach of Chum Creek.
“The valley is rich with talented performers, casting this show was a breeze,” he said.
“We are all so lucky to live in such a creative community, where we can produce and support quality theatre right on our doorstep.”
Tuilyn said she felt fortunate to have the opportunity to act in such an amazing play.
“After so many years away from theatre, it’s a joy to work with this wonderful cast and crew,” she said.
For Rhiannon, the play is “deliciously fun”.
“We all, the actors get to behave very badly,” she said.
“My character Annette asks ‘How many parents standing up for their children become infantile themselves?’ and that is exactly what happens, appalling childish behaviour … it’s very liberating.”
Justin is proud of the production, and confident that audiences will love God of Carnage.
“The actors are all immensely funny – I laugh at every rehearsal,” he said.
God of Carnage is at the Arts Centre Warburton on Saturday night, 9 September, and Sunday afternoon, 10 September, followed by The Memo at Healesville on 16 and 17 September, and Burrinja for a Saturday night only performance on 23 September.
