Fuel prices in Healesville

Editor,

I am writing in relation to fuel prices in Healesville.

In the over twenty years I have lived here, the price of fuel locally has been consistently in the order of 10 to 20c per litre higher than most other locations (eg. Lilydale, Yarra Glen, Launching Place).

Then in this past week on 7 and 8 August, this discrepancy has reached new heights with unleaded fuel selling across much of Melbourne for around 157.9 to 159.9c per litre.

And the price in Healesville on 7 and 8 August at the same time was 2.09.9c/l at all four fuel outlets. Why?

Enough is enough – just what is going on with our fuel prices locally?

This is a huge difference (over 30 per cent more expensive) and clearly not attributable to distance travelled by fuel tankers as several locations further away from Melbourne than Healesville are also consistently cheaper.

To compound this, why is it that all four of our fuel outlets are synchronized to have the same price all the time?

Do they really all take delivery at new prices at the same time?

In talking with people locally, most buy their fuel in Lilydale or elsewhere which makes good sense when prices are over 30 per cent higher.

We are living outside Melbourne and so generally travel greater distances and are disadvantaged by the prices we pay for fuel.

Ripped off?!
