MELBOURNE Water will shortly undertake routine maintenance work to extract a build-up of silt from the base of the Maroondah Reservoir outlet tower.
The water authority’s senior engineer, Cameron Padgham, said an excavator on the bank of the reservoir and an extraction pump guided by experienced divers in the reservoir would be used to complete the works.
“The silt has built up around the lowest of the outlet valves and it is necessary to remove it to ensure the proper operation of the valves,” Mr Padgham said.
A letter outlining the possible reduction of water flow along the Maroondah Aqueduct over a two-week period has been sent to residents living along the aqueduct.
The letter indicates that the maintenance work will begin next Monday, 24 July, that water will continue to be available from the aqueduct and that there will be no impact on the water supply to the Yarra Glen township.
