PAKENHAM SES stalwart Matthew Egan has been honoured for a decade of dedication.
Mr Egan recently received a medal recognising his 10 years of service to the SES and the local community.
Mr Egan joined the SES after becoming interested in it through his wife’s uncle, a volunteer with the Eltham unit.
Pakenham SES controller Andrew Graham presented Mr Egan with his 10-year medal.
“Talking to Matthew it’s easy to tell he’s been there for many years, sharing his experience and many stories about various call-outs,” Pakenham SES publicity officer Stephen Monro said.
“He works on night shift for Pura Milk and is often around during the day assisting when he can.”
Mr Egan rates a rescue operation after a serious road crash on Clyde Road, Berwick, several years ago as one of the worst jobs he attended.
Mr Monro said Matthew had nominated a storm damage job as providing the best memories.
“At this job, there was a timber pergola that had been picked up by the wind, and placed on top of the owner’s house,” Mr Monro said.
“As Matthew puts it, the guy who made the pergola built it so it wouldn’t fall down – not so it wouldn’t fall up!”
Mr Egan rates being part of a team as a highlight of his SES experience.
