SHIRE of Yarra Ranges councillors and representatives from the community have planted commemorative trees in each of the shire’s nine wards to celebrate the updating of the Vision 2020 Community Plan.
More than 4500 residents participated in the development of the updated plan, which outlines the community’s vision for the future.
Mayor Monika Keane said the plan was about making a real difference in our community.
“The planting is a symbolic gesture to show people that even the smallest of acts can make a difference,” she said.
“As the tree grows future generations will be reminded of the community’s commitment to creating a healthy, vibrant, safe, accessible, prosperous and sustainable shire.”
Cr Keane planted a tree on Ronald Grove in Millgrove last Thursday, 24 August with students from Warburton Christian School and Millwarra Primary School.
Ryrie Ward councillor Jeanette McRae and Cr Keane also planted a tree on the corner of Melba Highway and Maroondah Highway in Coldstream, with students from Coldstream Primary School.
