SEYMOUR MP Ben Hardman officially opened the new Yarra Valley Community Medical Service in Healesville last week.
Mr Hardman congratulated Yarra Valley Community Health Service (YVCHS) and Eastern Health which have driven the State Government funded GP clinic from its beginnings in 2002.
He said they had been vigilant in identifying the needs of the community.
“The Yarra Valley Community Medical Service is working closely with new health initiatives like diagnostic services and new health facilities to meet local needs,” said Mr Hardman.
“Last year more than 10 per cent of Yarra Valley people used the services of YVCHS and this augers very well for improved health care now there is a medical practitioner in the team.”
Jane Judd, manager of YVCHS, said the clinic was a true partnership and included the Department of Human Services, Shire of Yarra Ranges, the Eastern Ranges GP Association and Eastern Health in a long list of acknowledgements.
“I would like to acknowledge the achievement of all who have worked together to provide this community with access to timely same day GP services, something we have not had for some time,” she said.
“Our YVCHS team believes that with the addition of a GP to our health teams we will deliver superior care to those with chronic and complex health needs, young people, families and children.
“When you make an appointment with our YVCMS GP, you don’t just get to see a GP, the door opens to all the wonderful quality services our health professionals deliver,” she said.
Dr Inam Khan was appointed to the clinic in August.
“I am most excited about the opportunity to plan the care of my patients with a team approach,” he said.
“As a GP, having allied health professionals and nurses to work with is fantastic.”
