Birthday bash splash

THE people of Seville turned out in a tidal wave of support on Friday for their local pool.
Officially, the occasion was to celebrate the 50th birthday of the pool but there was a strong underlying message that the pool, with its future currently under a cloud, still has an important role to play in the social life of the community.
From toddlers to teens the ‘big’ pool and the fountain pool for littlies were packed.
A visit by Father Christmas was a highlight of the night which included a free barbecue tea and other free entertainment and activities provided by the Seville Chamber of Commerce.
Robert Pace, chamber president, said the night was an outstanding success with more than 400 people attending.
“There was a great sense of community spirit and the message we got was that people are very keen to redevelop the site if that’s what is needed.
“There is a recognition that it is a key asset to the town,” he said.
