THE 25th Warburton/Millgrove Sports Club auction in November doubled as an opportunity to thank the many volunteers who have helped over the years.
Among those volunteers were the team which formed a co-operative to start the Warburton-Millgrove Sports Complex all those years ago – Steven Lord, Stuart Ord, Chris Thomas, Rob Morter, Gary Lewis and Jerry Crunden.
The auction has not only been a major fund-raiser for the project but has become a significant social event for Warburton.
McEwen MP Fran Bailey presented certificates to 42 volunteers.
“The auction is an institution and the club itself epitomises the wonderful community spirit that we are so lucky to have in our smaller communities,” Ms Bailey said.
She said it was the volunteers who had ensured the club’s success over the years.
“Our hard-working community members give up their own time for fundraising, working bees and other projects which ensure clubs like this continue to grow and prosper.”
Yarra Ranges mayor Monika Keane, was also at the presentation and said she was impressed by the level of community involvement in the auction and the club.
Sports club spokesperson Rob Morter said the club was proud of its achievements and thanked Mrs Bailey for her support.
This year’s auction is expected to provide a further $8000 towards the on-going operation of the club.
