Stepping up to the fight

By Melissa Donchi
FOUR times Australian kickboxing champion Nick Lundh will take a shot at a world title after he was invited to fight in the International Kickboxing Federation.
The Launching Place resident is delighted to be have another chance at the world title after he narrowly missed out in 2002.
“Most people including the commentators believed I should have got the decision,” Mr Lundh said.
“Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to get another shot as the world title was fought and won overseas a short time later.”
Mr Lundh said he considered retiring after the decision as he is also has a full-time job as a playground designer and father of three.
But that all changed this year when he was approached by Fightforce Promotions to take on the number five ranked middle weight Luke Maddison from New South Wales.
“At the start it was just an ordinary fight but then the world title became vacated and due to his and my rankings we earned the right to fight for the world title,” Mr Lundh said.
“While my ranking has slipped since 2002 from seven to 10 I am pretty confident about this fight.”
The showdown will take place at the Crown Casino in Melbourne on Sunday, 15 July and Mr Lundh says he will be ready.
“I’m now training five days a week, in the morning and at night,” he said.
“According to Sportsbet the odds on Luke and myself are even so it should be a good match.”
