Smile … you’re on burglar-cam

By Melissa Donchi
MEMBERS of the Warburton Millgrove Sports Club are feeling more confident after a new closed-circuit television was installed to keep an eye on burglars.
The measure was a response to the club having been robbed five times in the past eight months.
The club appealed to the Shire of Yarra Ranges, which decided to invest in the surveillance equipment for the beleaguered club.
It was installed on Monday.
Club secretary Rob Morter said he was delighted with the security upgrade, describing it as “essential”.
“It was a necessary measure to take considering the number of times we’ve been targeted by thieves,” Mr Morter said.
“Hopefully this extra security will deter people from taking advantage of the club.”
Closed-circuit television uses video cameras to transmit a signal to monitors.
It is often used for surveillance in areas which need security, such as banks, casinos, and airports or military installations.
A spokesperson for the shire, James Martin, said it had been happy to help the club.
“The club had been targeted a number of times and some kind of security upgrade was necessary,” Mr Martin said.
“We are confident that this will be an effective deterrent.”
