STUDENTS and staff of Little Yarra Steiner School, Yarra Junction, were toasting a $400,000 Federal Government grant last week.
McEwen MP Fran Bailey said the money would go towards the construction of a number of purposebuilt classrooms as well as associated site works, services, furniture and equipment at the school.
The school’s business manager, Jim Taylor welcomed the grant, and said he looked forward to seeing it go towards the expansion and improvement of the school.
“We are very pleased to be receiving the support of the Commonwealth Government and the Block Grant Authority, who recommended our project,” he said.
“The money will go towards developing the upper school, where we’ll be constructing a faculty building that will include a small classroom and a meeting room.”
Mr Taylor said the school had plans for a further development to help it cope with increased student numbers, having enjoyed an increase of 40 students overall this year.
“This is the second year we’ve had a year 12 class, and numbers in the upper school are increasing as the students come through,” Mr Taylor said.
Ms Bailey said the new facilities would help the school provide the best possible learning environment for students in the area.
“This project involves a significant amount of funding, which indicates the importance the government places on developing and maintaining school infrastructure.”
