Police say farm sheds are easy targets

YARRA Junction Police have warned that open farm sheds are easy pickings for thieves after three motor bikes worth $15,000 were stolen from a Wesburn property.
Sergeant Kevin Largue said the motor bikes, one four-wheeler and two two-wheel models were stolen from a machinery shed in Station Road overnight on Friday and Saturday 14 and 15 September.
The owners of the property, who were asleep in a house just four or five metres from the shed, heard nothing.
Sgt Largue said the property had possibly been targeted but said it was equally likely opportunistic thieves had simply taken advantage of the accessibility of the bikes.
“A lot of farming properties around here have valuable tools or machinery in sheds and a lot of them are not locked. If an opportunistic thief comes along they are pretty much ripe for the pickings unless security measures have been taken,” he said.
Sgt Largue said police would like to hear from anyone who might have seen three bikes being transported around, most likely under cover of darkness, around the time of the theft.
