Cricket fever hits the Valley

WARBURTON – MILLGROVE CRICKET CLUB
STRACHAN SHIELD
HEALESVILLE batted first and after a solid start, they set about attacking Warburton bowlers to finish on 2/199. G Powell 76 not out and G Newbery 67 not out, their top scorers in an impressive batting performance. W Watson 2/31 was Warburton’s wicket taker.
In reply, Warburton started solidly before wickets started to fall and the run rate became too much of a challenge as they finished on 7/145. B Hanson 50, M Walker 42 not out and B Woods 23 were Warburton’s top scorers. D Edwards 2/33 and A Pearce 2/22 were Healesville’s best bowlers in a good first up effort.
STRACHAN SHIELD RESERVE
WARBURTON batted first and were struggling at 5/35 before Stephen Darwall 30 and B Winzer 30 combined to set up a respectable 7/132 against a good Healesville bowling attack. B Slater 3/18 their best bowler. However, Warburton’s bowlers and fielders responded very well to dismiss Healesville for 98.
A Ireland 3/22 and C Wylde 2/9 both bowled well. W Hickman top scored with 20. A good first up effort for our young side.
JUNIOR PLAYERS WANTED
WITH the Yarra Valley Junior Cricket Association 2005-06 season commencing this Saturday, 8 October, the Warburton-Millgrove Cricket Club are desperately in need of players for the Under 14 side. (Age as at 1/9/05).
Training is held on a Monday evening, 4.30pm – 6pm at the Warburton Oval. Contact the coach Garry Lewis on 5966 5386 or secretary Rodney McKail on 5966 2689, for further details.
The Under 12s train on a Friday evening, 4.30pm – 6pm. The Under 16s train on a Thursday evening, 4.30pm – 6pm.

YARRA JUNCTION CRICKET CLUB
STRACHAN SHIELD
YARRA Junction won the toss and batted first. Got of to a good start with B Lever and S Flutter second wicket partnership of 85 with S Flutter out for 47. Then a mid-order collapse with Panthers taking 7 for 37 with B lever the seventh wicket to fall for 43.
A good ninth wicket partnership between David Edwards and M Hottes for 21, with M Hottes out for 15 and Edwards not out 9, leaving the total 10/151.
Panthers got off to a good start with Hunter hitting 30 before being bowled with score at 1/47 off 15 overs then S Flutter and K Bomford tightening up a good start and having the Panthers 5/74 at drinks.
Game was in the balance at that time. After drinks the Eagles took a couple of wickets leaving the Panthers 7/99. D Witt and M Derhan put on a partnership of 21 to leave the Panthers at 8/120 with D Witt caught L Rose for 24.
Then N Fall, came back on and took the last 2 wickets leaving Junction winning by 30 runs. S Flutter 2/27 off 10. K Bomford 3/31 off 10. Special mention to M Hottes for 2 run outs.
STRACHAN SHIELD RESERVE
JUNCTION won the toss and bowled. Norm opened on taking three wickets in his first spell with Toby Pilton keeping it tight at the other end. D Flutter came on and bowled nine overs of big spinners picking up three wickets on the way.
All bowlers performed well bowling Coldstream out for 109. C Fall and D Flutter opened for Junction putting on 33 before Flutts was out. They lost four more wickets to be 5 for 57, then A Hammond and T Ottrey put on 30 before Hammo was out, then Terry went with six runs to score.
Norm and G Lebroca saw us home for a great win. A Hammond 39 and C Gall 29 were best with the bat. P Mc-Ardle made 30 and took 43 to be Coldstream’s best.

HEALESVILLE CRICKET CLUB
STRACHAN SHIELD
HEALESVILLE welcomed new players Dan Stocker and Allen Pearce, who has a good effort first up with the bat 2/199cc, Dan Stocker 33, Glenn Powell 76 not out and Glenn Newbery 67 not out all getting amongst the runs. Warburton finished 7/145 giving Healesville a comfortable victory. Allan Pearce 2/22 and Darren Edwards 2/33 the best of the bowlers.
STRACHAN SHIELD RESERVE
WARBURTON won the toss and batted first, for 7/132, Ben Slater 3/18 and Gavin Waixel 2/28 the best of the bowlers. Healesville thought 132 was a gettable total but most of the batsmen were pretty rusty. First up Wes Hickman 20 and Scott Hamer 19 were the best, but Healesville could manage only 98.
