YARRA Valley Water will install new water filters in Upper Yarra townships in a plan to provide a permanent solution the district’s water quality problems.
The multi-million dollar installation of filters will be introduced to Melbourne Water’s water treatment plants in Warburton East, Woori Yallock/Launching Place, Yarra Junction and Warburton.
The filters will be brought into operation progressively from mid-November through to mid-December.
“(The water filters) will improve the everyday water quality for residents and businesses throughout the Upper Yarra region,” Yarra Valley Water managing director Tony Kelly said. Until the filter installation is complete, Yarra Valley Water will continue to maintain drinking water stations as a precautionary measure.
Mr Kelly said that although the quality of the water in the Upper Yarra Reservoir has continued to improve through natural settling of the sediments, residents will continue to experience some variation in the colour of their water until the filters are commissioned.
Once the filters are operating, Yarra Valley Water will commence the cleaning of all of its water pipes in the area.
