WORK is scheduled to begin next week on a long-awaited pedestrian bridge over The Graceburn in Healesville.
Andrew Verkes and Marinus Jol from Fleetwood Urban who are building the bridge on behalf of Yarra Ranges Council, were on site last week to mark out the location.
Mr Verkes said they expected to start work on 25 February and complete the job within a couple of weeks.
The need for a pedestrian bridge linking Queen’s Park with the East End was identified as a safety issue with people crossing the busy Maroondah Highway, or walking along the narrow road bridge, to go between the park and the tourist precinct.
Yarra Ranges Council identified the project as a priority and allocated $100,000 in its 2011/12 budget with the remaining $20,000 to come from the local business community.
