LOCAL federal member Fran Bailey is disappointed that state Water Minister Tim Holding did not use his visit to Healesville last week as a means of consulting with locals over the north-south pipeline project.
“Mr Holding snuck into town very quietly, conducted some business at the Healesville Sanctuary and then left,” Ms Bailey said.
“Given the amount of serious concerns held by local residents over the proposed pipeline, why wouldn’t he have taken that opportunity to meet with those locals?“
Ms Bailey asked why Mr Holding didn’t take the opportunity to give them a copy of the data which, he and Premier John Brumby say, supports their reasons for building the pipeline.
She said the state’s continued argument of water savings to be made from the project, were still not proven.
“There is not one water or environmental scientist, who has come forward to support the State Government’s claims of water savings from this project,” Ms Bailey said.
“In fact, the evidence is to the contrary, there is not enough water to support this project.“
“When are Mr Holding and his boss going to admit they have made a monumental mistake?” Ms Bailey said.
