Cat calls in alley act

By JESSE GRAHAM

A TWO-act comedy thriller will be taking the stage at Healesville’s Memo Hall over the coming week, with two characters matching wits in search of treasure.
Down an Alley Filled with Cats, a play created by Warwick Moss, will be performed by Exit Theatre with a preview on Thursday, before the big opening night on Friday 13 December.
The play takes place in an old, cluttered bookstore, owned by Timothy Timmony (played by Kristof Kaczmarek), an elderly, well-cultured Polish immigrant.
Simon Matthews (played by Ben Nicholas), a young and un-cultured adventurer in search of fortune, enters and confronts Timothy about a book he’s searching for.
The plot begins to take shape when Timothy lies and said he has sold the book and the two end up locked in the store overnight to match wits.
Mr Kaczmarek, who also directs the play, said that his character, Timothy, plays games as part of his life philosophy and that the play is ultimately centred on greed and what it means.
Down an Alley Filled with Cats has been described as a mental maze, where one riddle leads to another and unexpected endings lie in wait as the characters struggle through their constant game.
The play will be performed from 7.30pm on Thursday 19, Friday 20 and Saturday 21 December and from 2pm on Sunday 22 December.
Tickets are $25 full price or $22 for concession holders, with $10 tickets to the preview evening.
