THE third round of Yarra Valley cricket was played in lovely spring weather, fine and sunny day with a few whispy clouds and a slight breeze greeting the players, in Strachan Shield Yarra Junction with 7/188 Nathan Fall 39 being the best with the bat while Jon Dalton took 3/5 for Mt Evelyn in reply Mt Evelyn reached 9/208 at stumps with Kane Jones making a fine 64 and James Rogers took 4/43.
Warburton Millgrove v Woori Yallock and Wandin v Silvan no scores received. May have been an unfortunate system glitch here.
Seville scored 3/124 with Al McCormick 74* to defeat Coldstream 8/115 with Craig Atkins netting 4/15.
Healesville scored 5/198 with Glen Newbery 85* to defeat Yarra Panthers 8/89 with Steve Pask on 20. Darren Edwards had a wonderful day with the ball taking five for five.
In Strachan Shield Reserve, Mt Evelyn scored 10/192 with D. Finch 60, B. Darvell 32 while Yarra Junction’s Toby Pilton took 7/60. He was backed up by the veteran Norm Spackman who took the remaining three wickets for 28.
Unfortunately Yarra Junction’s batting was not up to the standard of the bowlers and they were dismissed for 129 Jarred Barden taking 3/21 and P. Ortu 3/22.
Warburton Millgrove’s Nathan Ingam made 30 of his side score of 8/136 with Woori Yallock winning with a score of 4/149 with Tom Vanveen on 35. Seville scored 9/135. Paul Dicello 31* with Coldstream’s McArdle and Elridge both taking three wickets in reply. Coldstream were dismissed for 111 J. Pegg 22, Ben Costigan 4/35 and Dean Troyahn 4/13.
In Finger Trophy this week Aura Vale 9/101 with D. Hall 41*, McMahon and Morgan three wickets each for Kinglake. In reply Kinglake reached 4/126 with K. Sherring 33 the best with the bat.
Launching Place hosted new club Marysville for the first time and managed 125 with Michael Young 34*, J. Stewart 3/32. With the bat Marysville reached 6/190 at stumps Jason Harrow 47, A. Stanton 47, S. Thompson 1/17.
Gruyere District scored 138 with Matt Tilney 69, Jason Ridd 5/26 were too strong for Hoddles Creek 56 with Matt Tilney 3/17, Luke Sarre 3/26, Dave Riddell 3/7 all shared the wickets.
Yarra Glen scored 80 runs with J. White 21, J. Watkins 2/17 but lost to Powelltown 8/112 with Michael Pegg 4/31.
Next Saturday sees the final of the first group of One Day matches with the Strachan Shield main match being Mt Evelyn v Healesville.
In the reserve grade the main match will also be between these two clubs at Queens Park Healesville. In the Finger Trophy the match of the round will be between Powelltown and Kinglake at Powelltown, a second match worth a look in this grade will be played at Marysville between the hosts and Gruyere District.
