LOCAL hospitals are also copping the brunt of ice-related side-effects.
Emergency Department Associate Nurse Unit Manager at the Angliss Hospital, Sue Brown, said there had been a big increase of ice-induced incidents in the area.
“What people are taking is not always clean,” she said.
“There has been at least twice as many, if not four times as many people coming through the emergency ward over the last few years with ages varying from 18 to 30 in relation to the drug.
“It’s a big increase and often they haven’t had a large amount of the drug – that is an effect of it not being pure.”
Ms Brown said patients who were admitted were often very aggressive and became quite unreasonable with what they wanted.
It could take up to four to six days for them to come down.
