ONE of the most spectacular natural features of the Yarra State Forest near Powelltown has been targeted by vandals over the holidays.
Seven Acre Rock, a massive and secluded rock outcrop with views as far as Western Port, was among several items marred by graffiti late last year.
The Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) is investigating the graffiti attacks on two scenic areas in the Yarra State Forest and seeking information from the public that may assist police.
The DELWP’s Wally Notman said all the signs, bollards and the public toilet were spray painted at Seven Acre Rock.
“The offenders did not stop there and also spray painted granite rocks along the walking track and the main lookout,” Mr Notman said.
“The lookout provides views of the surrounding hills out to West Gippsland and Western Port bay and has been damaged by thoughtless vandals.
“The Powelltown picnic area signs providing information for visitors to the Yarra Forest were also damaged with graffiti.
“This type of reckless behaviour is costly to clean up and creates a negative experience for the many visitors to our forests.”
