A CROYDON man who took a wrong track while walking at Maroondah Dam on Melbourne Cup day sparked an overnight search by police and Healesville SES.
Sgt Tony Van Gorp of Healesville police said although the man was an experienced bushwalker, there were fears that when he had not returned to his car by nightfall something might have happened him.
Healesville SES volunteers assisted police in a search of bushland from about 10.30pm to 2.30am the next morning, when the search was scaled down. Two SES volunteers continued to patrol bush tracks until about 7am.
Healesville SES controller William Johnson said six SES units from as far away as Northcote were at the Healesville SES depot ready to join the search when news came through that the man had been found.
