DEREK and Merinda Jones along with the staff at Breen Printing have been servicing the printing needs of the local community for over 20 years.
The experienced staff has many years of training and expertise in all areas of the industry.
With new equipment and technology acquisitions the team is able to handle all printing, copying, laminating and graphic design needs.
During this time Breen Printing has trained two award-winning apprentices and is proud of the latest honours award to final year Graphic Prepress Apprentice Amanda Hay.
Ms Hay won the RMIT apprentice of the year, a silver medal in the National World Skills Competition, and was runner up in the Lithographic Institute of Australia graduate of the year.
Ms Hay has been working in the printing and graphic arts industry for over three years.
“I enjoy every aspect of my job,” Ms Hay said.
“Coming from a small country town, it was daunting in the beginning having to travel to the city for trade school, but I overcame that pretty quickly.”
Last month Ms Hay won a silver medal in the WorldSkills regional competition.
This year she was also awarded the Herb Thomas Memorial Trust Award of $1,200 towards furthering her studies.
Co-worker Kirsty Woodhead also received an Apprentice of the Year award three years ago.
Ms Woodhead has trained Amanda through her course.
“It is really great that Amanda’s hard work has been recognised,” said Ms Woodhead.
“She really has an eye for detail and a flair for graphic design.”
Ms Hay is planning to travel overseas to broaden her knowledge about the world of printing.
Breen Printing is open five days a week from 8.30am till 4.30pm and has between 10 and 12 staff on board.
With people so talented working with this team there is nothing they can’t do.
Professional development is an ongoing mission at Breen Printing. This is what marks a successful organisation. And it is what makes this business so successful.
The skills and enthusiasm of staff are evident in the finished products, and over two decades and most pertinently in recent years, and this has understandably led to a high degree of client satisfaction.
Printing and related services are specialist activities, hence the need to keep abreast of developments in the wider field.
It takes years to build up the kind of expertise that is evident at Breen Printing.
It also takes a high level of knowledge to be able to move with changing technologies in a dynamic industry. Few industries change as fast as the printing industry has over the past 20 years.
But the staff at Breen love their work and love applying their creative and practical capabilities to achieve the best possible outcomes for those who purchase their products and services.
