WESBURN Junior Football Club is kicking goals on and off the ground.
And, the players and spectators can now look forward to keeping track of their hard-earned goals (and points) on a new electronic scoreboard, thanks to the Upper Yarra Rotary Club and other community-minded organisations.
Rotary raised funds for two years for the upgrading of children’s recreational facilities at Wesburn Park.
Rotary past president, Don Wood, said while there were no plans in place for a specific project, community consultation had revealed there was a real need for improvement at the ground, so the club had set about raising funds for future use.
“When we learned the football club had commenced fund-raising for an electronic scoreboard, it was decided that the funds held by Rotary would be used to help the football club achieve their target,” Mr Wood said.
Rotary presented WJFC president, Chris Read, with a cheque for $5,548 in May.
The club secured additional funds through WorkSafe, Yarra Ranges Council and the AFL Yarra Ranges Commission which, when topped up with fund-raising by the club sealed the deal for the purchase of the $20,000 scoreboard.
“We are delighted that the football club with our help, the help of the other organisations, and through their own fund-raising efforts, will achieve their goal of a modern, electronic scoreboard,” Mr Wood said.
