Horses and riders back

By Melissa Meehan
HORSES and their riders were welcomed back to the Melbourne Show last week following a year’s break after the Equine Flu outbreak.
Upper Yarra Pony Club members Brooke Mitchener and Allysse Smith were forced to miss out in 2007, but made sure 2008 would be different.
Last year the girls were both disappointed with the decision to ban equine events at the show, but were excited about taking part in this year’s show.
Brooke competed in Classes Girls 15-year-old rider, and the Open Hack, with Allysse watching on from the stands.
The Mail spoke with the girls last week.
“I am a little nervous, but I’m hoping it will go well,” Brooke said.
“It will be good to have Allysse there for support.”
Allysse said that while she wasn’t competing she would be there to cheer on her friend.
“We have been showing together since we were young, so I will be there,” Allysse said.
“And I will be starting again soon to qualify for next year.”
Both girls said they were looking forward to the Lilydale Show later this year.
