Time to keep step with water curbs

DAYLIGHT saving will start early this year and Yarra Valley Water is reminding Yarra Ranges residents to watch the clock to keep step with water restrictions.
People need to move clocks forward an hour as daylight savings starts on Sunday 5 October to ensure they are in line with Stage 3a restrictions garden watering times.
Under Stage 3a restrictions even numbered properties can water their gardens on Saturday and Tuesday, and odd numbered properties on Sunday and Wednesday within specified times.
A manual dripper system, hand-held hose fitted with a trigger nozzle, a watering can and a bucket can be used to water gardens as required on specified watering days between 6 and 8am. People aged 70 and over can water between 8 and 10am.
Yarra Valley Water managing director Tony Kelly said it is important for customers to also adjust automatic dripper systems, which can be used on specific watering days between midnight and 2am.
He said Melburnians have done a great job saving water in recent years with more than 360 billion litres of water saved since 2002 but added that the population had grown significantly over that period.
“With storages well below where they were last year it is vital that we all increase our water saving efforts and we don’t become complacent,” he said.
