FIVE people were lucky to escape serious injury on the weekend when a car and a truck collided in Healesville.
The incident occurred at about 3.15pm on Saturday at the corner of Chum Creek and Eleva Roads.
The male driver and female passenger in the truck were taken to the Maroondah Hospital, both in a stable condition with minor injuries.
The car’s driver and passengers escaped uninjured, but both vehicles have been written off.
Healesville Country Fire Authority captain Graeme Bates said the collision, which occurred out the front of the Chum Creek Store, could have ended in tragedy.
“Three visitors to the area, driving a rented car, were pulling out of the store driveway when (the incident occurred),” he said.
“The impact of the collision tore the front off the car and the truck then hit a nearby tree head on.
“Someone could have been killed.”
Mr Bates said emergency services were forced to close Chum Creek Road for 90 minutes while the scene of the crash was cleared.
