STAFF at Healesville Sanctuary got themselves into gear on Wednesday as part of Ride to Work Day.
Healesville Sanctuary director John Gibbons said more than 10 staff at the sanctuary rode their bikes to work daily, but many others got on board to support the good cause for the day.
“A large number of our vets and keepers who live locally ride to work, which helps promote the right sustainability message to our community,” Mr Gibbons said.
“In fact, many of our staff use bikes to move about the sanctuary.
“Not only is it any easy way to get around, it is part of our overall environmental sustainability strategy. It helps to minimise our carbon footprint, which is part of Zoos Victoria’s plan to achieve carbon neutrality by 2012.”
Ride to Work Day donations will provide essential funds for research into diabetes, heart disease and obesity.
