MARYSVILLE is known as a springtime honeymoon town for good reason.
Getting there involves the magic of driving through the magnificent tall timbers of the Black Spur from Healesville, or the Reefton Spur from Warburton.
Trees hundreds of feet high, giant tree ferns and lush undergrowth are just part of the attraction. Shadows and light alternate with misty views.
Drive down into the Marysville valley and the palette now includes a hundred shades of pink and red and gold. Enormous rhododendrons, delicate azaleas, blazing waratahs can be seen throughout the town. And there is green, glorious green, everywhere.
The Marysville Flower Festival aims to celebrate the unique beauty of the area. Prize-winning flowers and professional displays are presented against the backdrop of the picturesque golf course.
Now in its fourth year the flower festival will include specialist displays of Australian native flowers, roses, water lilies, and gerberas.
There will be stalls with plants, crafts, local wines, jams, cakes and other produce for sale.
The work of local artists will be on display, and the Marysville Lions Club will be selling Devonshire teas and snacks. For the first time, there will be a parade of crazy scarecrows to add colour and fun. The festival is a fundraiser for the Marysville Community Golf and Bowls Club and just plain fun for visitors.
Opening times are 1pm to 4pm on Saturday 1 November and 10am to 4pm on Sunday 2 November. Phone 5963 3780 for details.
