PLANNED burns in Warburton today will result in minor road and rail trail disruptions.
Smoke will also be visible in and around the town as the Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning (DELWP) and Parks Victoria conduct the 22-hectare burn along Hooks Road.
Forest Fire Management Yarra District manager Nigel Brennan said a section of the Warburton Rail Trail, from Hooks Road and Scotchman’s Creek, will be closed and a detour will be provided.
“Minor delays can be expected on the Warburton Highway today,” Mr Brennan said.
He said it was vital for DELWP to take every opportunity to complete burns whenever conditions were suitable and it is safe to burn.
“This burn is a fuel reduction burn and will be carried out by experienced crews using local knowledge of forest fuels, topography and weather conditions,” Mr Brennan said.
He acknowledged that smoke from planned burns could cause concern for some people but said it was important to burn when conditions were right to reduce bushfire risk.
Information on planned burns are available on vic.gov.au/plannedburn, download the FireReady app or call the Victorian Bushfire Information Line on 1800 240 667.
