Council severs VicRoads links

VICROADS Services will no longer be available at council’s Community Links after 30 June.
Council made the decision to cease providing services on behalf of VicRoads following changes by VicRoads to its service agreement with council.
Yarra Ranges director Corporate Services Troy Edwards said those changes, combined with changing customer behaviours, meant it was no longer financially viable for council to continue providing services on behalf of VicRoads.
“Council and ratepayers would have been left to heavily subsidise VicRoads services under the proposed new service agreement, making it unviable when cost effective online services are available to meet many customers’ needs,” Mr Edwards said.
“Increased use of mobile devices has seen many customers change the way they prefer to do business.
“This trend is only going to increase as the breadth of VicRoads services available online continues to grow.
“The withdrawal of VicRoads services from our Community Links will enable us to focus on improving the delivery of core council services through those centres and reduce our operating expenses.”
Mr Edwards said VicRoads had committed to increasing appointments for services including learner permit tests, licence and registration changeovers and driving tests at its licence testing centre in Mooroolbark.
VicRoads Customer Service centres are also located at 12 Lakeside Drive, Burwood East and 77 Corporate Drive, Heatherton.
“Council’s customer service officers will support the transition of VicRoads services out of Community Links by providing customers with information about how they can continue to access VicRoads services after 30 June,” he said.
