WHEN an event organiser says it is “ … one of the best line-ups of music ever seen in the Yarra Valley,” he had better be able to back it up.
Dave Walker, one of the movers and shakers behind “A Day at the Shed 2” to be held at Gladysdale on Saturday 29 November, has earned bragging rights for what promises to be a one-day music feast.
Australian music icon Mick Thomas will headline the event, for which 12 bands on two stages performing from 3pm to midnight have been signed.
Thomas is frontman of the renowned Weddings, Parties, Anything and is one of Australia’s most highly regarded singer/songwriters, with a string of top-10 hits. He will be at The Barra Shed with his band, The Sure Thing, as one of the 12 acts to play on the day.
“A Day at the Shed 2” will also feature Spectrum on stage, featuring original members Mike Rudd and Bill Putt. “Mike and Bill, aside from their work with Spectrum, are the driving force behind such bands as The Indelible Murtceps and Ariel,’’ said Walker. “Their music has inspired many of Australia’s popular music icons.”
Spectrum’s ’70s hit, “I’ll Be Gone (Someday I’ll have Money)”, still gets crowds singing along all over the country.
Also on the bill will be The Re-Mains, fresh back from their triumphant Canadian tour.
“A recent review by Jeff Glorfeld in The Age summed up these legends of the road best,” said Walker, quoting that “ … there’s enough here to advance the argument that The Re-Mains are the best country-rock band in Australia’’.
The “best ever” claim continues to gather credibility when Walker lists another nine bands in the line-up. Included are international touring artists, Damian Howard & The Ploughboys, local original all-country band Dave Walker & The Blue Moon Lodge, and Lee Morgan.
Melbourne group The Wishing Well is also on the bill – orchestral and lush, The Wishing Well creates spellbinding sounds that produce a rich tapestry of folk, pop and rock music.
When you throw into the mix a couple of Tamworth’s finest in Jeff Gibson and Toni Swain, local performer Marie Lumsden-Keys, Healesville artists Ewan Cloonan, and Geoff Jenkins & The Heartstarters, you have one of the best line-ups of music seen in the Yarra Valley.
The concert is a community event with all food proceeds going to Warburton Football Club and Gladysdale Primary School.
Mr Walker said ticket prices have been kept low to ensure everyone had an opportunity to be a part of the day.
Tickets are available at www.easytix.com.au and from a number of local businesses where the Day at the Shed 2 poster is on display.
