EMERALD teams the Little Terrors and Cows in Reverse last week pushed through high winds and hail as they competed in the RACV Energy Breakthrough Trial.
The two teams, taking up the challenge for the first time, performed well.
Emerald Primary School had previously competed in the Wonthaggi Grand Prix and a six-hour endurance event.
The program was designed to provide students, teachers and parents with an opportunity to work together to design a vehicle that tests technology, fitness and endurance.
Using human-powered vehicles, the students put their endurance to the test in Maryborough, from Thursday to Saturday.
Teacher Jason Dangerfield said they did a great job. The Cows in Reverse team was fourth overall and the Little Terrors weren’t far behind, crossing in eighth position.
The Little Terrors also won the design and construction section.
Both teams also showed they could endure anything, pushing through the rain, hail and strong winds.
The Little Terrors managed to cover 157 laps of the track while the Cows in Reverse did slightly better with 166 laps over eight hours.
Mr Dangerfield the students had a wonderful time and showed they could mix it with some of the best.
He said that despite their exhaustion, the students were ready to take up the challenge again next year.
