THE government is asking for recommendations from visitors to Lake Mountain to help the resort combat climate change and secure its future.
On Tuesday 21 June, the government opened consultation on the Mount Baw Baw and Lake Mountain 2030 Project, calling on visitors and residents to put forward their best ideas for the future of the two attractions.
The project aims to address the social and financial sustainability of both resorts, particularly in the face of climate change, which affects snowfall and retention.
Chairman of the Mount Baw Baw and Lake Mountain Resorts management boards Allan Bawden said the result would affect future generations of Victorians and visitors.
“We invite everybody to read the discussion papers and have their say on the key issues and opportunities, which will be presented to the State Government later in the year,” Mr Bawden said.
The consultation website links to discussion papers for both resorts and an online forum where people can answer questions and start conversations about their ideas.
Questions include: What could be done to enhance the existing activities and facilities and/or what type of new, non-snow based experiences or activities would bring increased visitors like you to Lake Mountain in the winter or “green season”?
Workbooks and guidelines are also provided for people wanting to host discussions with multiple people.
The consultation ends on Sunday 10 July, with a second stage of consultation beginning on 1 August. The final outcomes will be presented to the government in September.
Lake Mountain opened its first weekend for the snow season on 11 June.
