CLEANER business practices are now in place in the Yarra Ranges, following the second year of the shire’s Sustainable Business Program at the restaurant Stones of the Yarra Valley at Coldstream.
Members held their final seminar for 2008 last week. The program will continue next year.
Mayor Len Cox presented 30 participants with certificates to acknowledge their efforts to minimise their environmental footprint.
Under the program, businesses have been meeting monthly to learn ways of reducing greenhouse gases and tapping into the financial benefits of environmentally sustainable business practices.
The graduates will form a nucleus of a new body, the Shire of Yarra Ranges Business Sustainability Network, and most will return next year along with new members for the 2009 program.
“We will open up memberships to about 45,” the shire’s executive officer economic development Simon O’Callaghan said.
