A cookbook published by Warburton’s Signs Publishing has been announced as the ‘Best in the World’ in the ‘Health and Nutrition’ category of the prestigious Gourmand World Cookbook Awards.
The annual awards have been described as the ‘Oscars’ of cookbooks and attract entries from more than 200 nations.
Food As Medicine: Cooking for Your Best Health by experienced dietician Sue Radd was released by Signs Publishing in October.
An exploration of how our dietary decisions can affect our physical and mental health, it features 150 plant-based recipes alongside an explanation of the scientific research that supports the pattern of eating demonstrated in the recipes.
The award was presented by Edouard Cointreau, chairman of the awards committee. The Cointreau family operate Le Cordon Bleu cooking schools around the world, along with a number of other significant food and food-related businesses.
“There is no higher award in the cookbook world,” said the general manager of Signs Publishing, Andrew Irvine, who accepted the award at the May 28 ceremony in Yantai, China. “Standards are very high and there is significant competition in each category.”
Signs book editor Nathan Brown said the award celebrated the achievement of a team of people working together to produce a book that was both credible and attractive.
“As a publisher, we have been publishing books on health, nutrition and positive lifestyle, based in Warburton for more than 100 years, so the success of this project follows in the best of this tradition,” he said.
Food As Medicine is available from all good bookstores, including the Signs bookstore, which is open Thursday afternoons from 1.15 to 5pm.
