Spur slip causes chaos

A small landslip on the Black Spur over the Queen’s Birthday long weekend left thousands of holiday-goers stuck in traffic.
It is believed the landslip happened on 10 June, just south of Dom Dom Saddle on the Black Spur and resulted in the road being reduced to one lane.
Victoria Police issued a statement warning travellers intending on driving towards Eildon, Alexandra or towns in between to choose an alternate route – ‘alternatively, head to Yea, then down the Melba Highway to avoid the area’ in a Victoria Police post on social media.
The landslip was the result of a large tree becoming uprooted on the low side of the road, which caused part of the city-bound lane to slide down the embankment.
Geoff Stott of Healesville SES said it had been like that for three days, and that he believed it needed resealing.
It was reported that during peak times, the traffic had built-up for several kilometres with some travellers waiting over 40 minutes.
Those who were stuck in the traffic took to social media to voice their displeasure
“Took over an hour to get through the spur,” posted Jodi.
“When we got to the top of the spur it was backed up almost to the Narby (Narbethong) pub,” posted Sharon.
