Region reaches out

THE YARRA Valley and Dandenong Ranges are set to benefit from worldwide exposure with the launch of a new international marketing program.
Tourism body Destination Yarra Valley Dandenong Ranges launched its inaugural International Flagship Marketing Program at Mt Rael Retreat in Healesville last week.
The centrepiece of the marketing program, which was launched by Channel 9 Getaway presenter David Reyne is a 28 page full colour glossy brochure which shows 25 world-class attractions from the region.
Destination Yarra Valley Dandenong Ranges executive director Andrea Roberts said the brochure would be the tourism body’s primary trade marketing tool for international markets and corporate clients.
“The new 2005/2006 International Flagship Marketing Brochure will play a critical role in a highly competitive marketplace, ensuring the Yarra Valley and Dandenong Ranges remains a key destination of choice for international travellers to Australia,” Ms Roberts said.
“The brochure is a vital tool in guaranteeing the region continues to maintain and increase the record visitation levels,” said Ms Roberts.
Established tourism attractions and operators included in the brochure are Chateau Yering, Sebel Lodge Yarra Valley, Domaine Chandon, De Bortoli Winery, Fergusson Winery, Yering Station, Healesville Sanctuary and Puffing Billy.
“Some of the newcomers to the international marketing program this year include Susan’s in The Valley, Mt Rael Retreat, Katandra Gardens, Balgownie Estate, Immerse in the Yarra Valley, and Yileena Park,” said Ms Roberts.
In addition to the new brochure, a CD-Rom is being produced along with a trade component of the new corporate web site which is currently in production.
Mr Reyne, who claims to be one of Australia’s most travelled citizens, said he was delighted to launch the new program.
“I’ve been a long time fan of the Yarra Valley and the Dandenongs.
“I remember passing through when I was a kid and every time I’ve been here for the program (Getaway) I’ve been astonished,” he said.
“The region has such wonderful natural assets and has become sophisticated very rapidly over the past few years.
“Having travelled all over the world I can honestly say this is one of the best places in the world.”
