Work set for library

YARRA Junction Library will close the book on cramped aisles and old furniture this week, with the library closed for refurbishment until April.
The library closed on Friday 27 February and will not reopen until Tuesday 6 April.
Yarra Junction Community Library manager Sandra Hamnett said internal walls would be removed to create more space within the library and new carpet, furniture and technology would be installed.
Ms Hamnett said they were also hoping to make a dedicated children’s room, which would also double as a meeting area for the library-run community activities.
She said that while the refurbishment was an ‘exciting’ new chapter for the library, not all book borrowers had taken the news well.
“We had one little boy run out of the library saying that it was the worst day of his life, when he found out that the library would close for a little while,” Ms Hamnett said.
She said steps had been taken to ensure the community would not be disadvantaged by the library’s temporary closure.
“We will have provision for a Mobile Library to visit the Yarra Junction library site on Mondays, for those people who wish to pick up their requested material or borrow more items,” she said.
“We are hoping that a lot of our patrons will go to other libraries or enjoy having a new experience by going using the Mobile Library.”
The Mobile Library will be in the Yarra Junction Library car park from 10.30am to 1pm on Monday 1, 15, 22 and 29 March.
