WARBURTON Tennis Club has been given a face-lift and its members and supporters are looking forward to a bright and successful future.
The club, which celebrated its centenary last year, unveiled $40,000 worth of refurbishments to its home, between the Yarra River and the Warburton Highway, last week.
The club’s two riverside courts, one of which was deemed unplayable by Tennis Victoria last year, have been fully renovated and the club house has been restumped and painted.
The refurbishment was funded by the Warburton Community Bank, the Shire of Yarra Ranges, the Warburton Sports Committee and through donations from members.
Club secretary Sandi Harrison said the face-lift and repairs had given the club a new lease on life.
“The club has had a rich history over the past 100 years and we are looking forward to the next 100 years,” she said.
Ms Harrison said the club had seen some turbulent times over the past two years, involving internal disputes and facility closures, but said members and supporters were focused on moving forward.
“We’ve got two new courts, the club house is looking great and we’ve also got a new committee on board steering the club into a bright future,” she said.
The club is currently running mid-week tennis competitions for women players, a Saturday morning competition for junior players and night tennis through the summer.
“We are also running social tennis on Monday mornings for people of all ages and coaching for juniors and adults on Thursday evenings,” Ms Harrison said.
She said membership is now open and the club is keen to welcome new players and supporters.
“Our membership prices are very competitive and there is a strong, family-friendly atmosphere at the club,” she said. For membership and social tennis information contact Sandi Harrison or Lyn Shuttleworth on 5966 9032.
