ANZAC Day marches, ceremonies and services will be held across the nation on Sunday 25 April to commemorate the landing at Gallipoli in 1915 of the Australian & New Zealand Army Corp and pay tribute to all who have lost their lives in war.
In the Yarra Valley, the tradition of Anzac Day, starting with the Dawn Services, gunfire breakfasts and Anzac marches and continuing with reunions and perhaps the odd game of two-up, continues to grow each year. Residents and visitors of all ages are invited to attend one of the services listed below.
Yarra Junction
A DAWN Service will be held at the Cenotaph in Yarra Junction from 6am, followed by a community breakfast at the Upper Yarra RSL in Settlement Road, Yarra Junction. A gold coin donation would be appreciated. The Anzac Day March will assemble at 10am at the main intersection in Yarra Junction for a march to the Cenotaph. A friendly game of two-up will be played back at the RSL. Lunch will also be available. Contact: Shelley on 5967 1771.
Marysville
THE Anzac Day March will assemble at 10.45am and go down the main street to the Cenotaph. A service will follow at the Cenotaph and refreshments at the golf club. Contact: Nick Jans. 0407 008 721.
Healesville
A DAWN Service will be held at Healesville RSL at 5.50am to be followed by the traditional gunfire breakfast in the RSL. The March, assembling at 9.30am for a 10am start at Church Street, will be followed by a wreath laying ceremony and service at the Memorial Hall Cenotaph. Light refreshments will follow at the RSL. Yarra Glen
THE march will start at 10:15am at the Yarra Glen Police Station on King Street and proceed to the Memorial Hall. Following the march, there will be a commemorative service in the Memorial Hall. Children from the local schools will address what Anzac Day means and why it is important to them. Light refreshments will be available following the service. Contact: Ed Bartosh 9739 1879.
Coldstream/Yering
ON TUESDAY 27 April, students from Yering Primary School will hold an Anzac service in collaboration with members of the Lilydale RSL at the Coldstream War Memorial corner of Melba and Maroondah highways. Start at 9am and members of the public are invited to attend in remembrance of the men and women from the Yering and Coldstream districts who lost their lives at war. Contact: 9725 9649.
Wandin Yallock
THE Rotary Club of Wandin will host the Anzac Day Service at 9am at the War Memorial on the corner of Hunter and Beenak roads in Wandin Yallock. People are invited to place a wreath in memory of the service men and women of the area. Followed by a morning tea. Contact: Kevin Parker on 5964 4422.
Millgrove
THE Millgrove community and Warburton RSL will hold a Dawn Service at the Millgrove Park Memorial at 5.50am, followed by a gunfire breakfast at the CFA station. Contact: Maureen Halit 5966 5806. The March will be held at Warburton.
Lilydale
A DAWN service at 5.45am at the Cenotaph in the main street. Followed by a march back to the RSL where refreshments will be served from 9am to 11am. Lilydale RSL is supporting the Lilydale vs Croydon Anzac Day football match at Lilydale at 2pm. Contact: Eric Dosser 9725 9649.
Warburton
THE Anzac Day March will leave from the RSL clubrooms in main street at 10.25am (assembly from 10.15am) to march to the Cenotaph where a wreath laying ceremony will take place. A lunch will be served at Warburton RSL and all ex-service men and women and members of the public are invited. A Dawn Service will be held at Millgrove. Contact: Dennis Reeves on 5966 2667.
