Festival full of free fun

By Kath Gannaway
ACCESSIBILITY and having lots of fun are just two reasons the Yarra Glen Festival has become such a favourite with the local communities.
Another is the opportunity to say ‘thanks’.
The festival incorporates the National Day of Thanksgiving which provides an opportunity for the public to acknowledge and honour the people who give so much to their communities.
Free entry and lots of free games and entertainment takes the pressure off the purse and means everyone can join in.
“It’s about coming together to celebrate all that is great about living in Yarra Glen and surrounds, and to give thanks,” said organiser Mike Baimbridge.
Among a very full four hours of activities are Irish dancing, local singers, a children’s farm, circus dogs and a jumping castle, lots of youth fun and games, circus and craft workshops, felt making, an historical machinery display, schools art display and great food.
Local groups will be on hand to show what they have to offer.
Global Ballooning and Heartland have once again joined forces to donate a great gate prize.
Just pick up a free ticket at the gate for the chance to win a balloon ride for two over the beautiful Yarra Valley.
The Thanksgiving ceremony and prize draws are at 3pm.
The Yarra Glen Festival is on Saturday 29 May from noon to 4pm at the Yarra Valley Racing Centre.
