KNOX Raiders will don new team colours on Saturday to raise cash and awareness for breast cancer. They will take to the court in bright pink uniforms.
But it’s not the first time the Raiders have pitched in for a good course.
This pink basketball spectacular follows a similar event last year against the Brisbane Spartans. Then it was the Spartans who went pink for the cause. Raiders staff and players also wore pink shirts throughout the match, raising more than $3000. This year, the spectacular will see a rematch of both the 2009 men’s and women’s grand finals.
Following the women’s clash, a half an hour of entertainment is lined up before the big rematch of the night.
NBL greats Darryl McDonald, Andrew Parkinson and Glenn Siegle will also put their skills to the test with a half-time shoot-out competition.
There will also be plenty of great prizes with the Raiders raffle, including a LCD television set and a $500 sporting goods voucher is up for grabs for the spectator who dresses in the best pink theme for the night.
Knox Basketball chief executive Simon Brookhouse said the night would offer fans a fantastic opportunity to see some of the country’s best basketball action for an absolute bargain while supporting a great cause.
“We’ve also got singer-songwriter Chris Mitchell who was the supporting act for the band Kisschasy to play a set in between games along with a much-anticipated NBL past player’s shoot-out at half-time of men’s clash,” he said.
“The response we had in ’09 was phenomenal and I encourage everyone to get behind the cause.”
This night of non-stop entertainment will cost just a gold coin donation with all proceeds raised going directly to the National Breast Cancer Foundation.
Raiders’ spokesman Greg Oakford said the league had even managed to arrange the draw to allow Brisbane and Knox to have their pink basketball spectacular at the same time each year.
The action starts at 5.30pm as the women take centre court but doors open at the Knox Basketball Stadium, Park Crescent, Boronia, at 4.45pm.
