Upwey just too strong for Olinda Ferny Creek

By Carli Mitchell
AFTER a week off for inter-league, round six of Division 1 A Grade netball started off with a bang.
Upwey Tecoma hosted the girls from Olinda Ferny Creek and all day the home side played wonderfully across every area of the court.
From the get-go the Upwey Tecoma girls showed that they had come to play and it was no surprise that they came away with the four points.
Although there were exciting passages of play from defence straight down to their goal scorers, Olinda was simply no match for their opposition and lost the game 80-25.
The girls from Warburton Millgrove headed to Woori Yallock and comfortably beat the home side 50-14, following on from their win against Gembrook Cockatoo before the inter-league break.
The four points will definitely help the girls from Warby come September.
The girls from Woori Yallock can try to redeem themselves against Olinda Ferny Creek in their next match.
With another strong performance through accurate shooting and excellent defending, the Warburton Millgrove girls can enter their next game with their confidence flying.
With a win against Woori Yallock the week prior to inter-league, the girls from Monbulk hosted Gembrook Cockatoo and prevailed in a very dominant and one-sided affair.
The first quarter was very close but the girls from Monbulk soon overpowered the visiting side through their strong centre-court players and defenders.
With their defenders making timely intercepts and giving their opposition no room to move, Monbulk won the match convincingly 57-24.
In what was to be the most exciting game of the round, the girls from Healesville travelled to Wandin and went down to the home side by a single goal in a tug-of-war type match.
With both sides playing well it was hard to separate them, even when it came down to the final minutes of the match.
But the girls from Wandin proved they were the better side on the day, defeating the Healesville girls 45-44 in a very entertaining game.
Mount Evelyn had the bye.

@BT Sport Sub Mail:DIVISION 2

THE girls from Alexandra hosted Thornton Eildon to kick off round seven for Division 2 A Grade.
They comfortably defeated the visiting side by 22 goals in a one-sided affair.
In every aspect of the court the girls from Alexandra appeared to be more polished in their skills.
They were also much more athletic compared to Thornton Eildon, who eventually ran out of legs after a good performance the week prior to inter-league.
Despite playing well, the girls from Thornton Eildon lost to Alexandra 42-20.
Yea hosted the reigning premiers at home and it was Powelltown who eventually came away with the four points.
Both teams played at their absolute best, proving why they were top-four sides. The game was exciting from the start to the very end.
Yea managed to keep up with the visiting team until the girls from Powelltown managed to break away in the final quarter and win 44-40.
Although they remain winless for the season, the girls from Belgrave hosted the Emerald girls and continue to improve.
They lost 65-26 but are slowly warming up and will hopefully register their first win soon.
Emerald, on the other hand, played a wonderful game of netball with their goal scorers barely missing and their centre-court players getting the ball down from one end of the court to the other.
The girls from Yarra Junction travelled to Kinglake and defeated the home side by 10 goals in an exciting game.
Despite the Kinglake girls putting up a good fight, they were simply no match for Yarra Junction, who won 44-34.
Even though they defeated Thornton Eildon the week prior to inter-league, the week off possibly affected their style as they went down to Yarra Junction in a very winnable game.
The girls from Seville travelled to Yarra Glen to come away with a 73-19 win to remain one of the two undefeated sides of the season.
Although the girls from Yarra Glen started off reasonably well, they were simply no match against the fire power of Seville’s accurate shooters and their excellent defenders.
The Yarra Glen girls were simply outclassed by Seville’s players and will be looking to redeem themselves against Belgrave next week.
